How much flex does a firestik have???
not much flex at all. I broke off my 3' in my garage. now I have a 3' with QD. Even with the spring, where is it going to go with the hard top on when backing in my garage (1/2 way in there is a low hanging bulkhead). Plus on the firestik the tip is tunable, I dont really want to keep wacking it on stuff...
Here is a picture of my 3' Firestik II on my Jeep with my hardtop,
- My Firestik is mounted about 2 inches above the side bottom bolt on the tire carrier. it sticks above the hardtop maybe 2.5" and when it flexes it rests against the tire when pulling it back

Hope this helps

I have a three foot firestik on a spring, mounted to an Arizona Rocky Road spare tire mount -- it sticks way up above the Jeep:

When I go into a parking garage, I bend the firestik over and shove it into the rear of the Jeep, so that it's under the soft-top:

I don't do it that often, maybe a few times a year, but nothing bad has happened yet. Wouldn't try it without a spring.

ArrowheadRay: There as a FierSTIK antenna and a FireFLY antenna. Both are made by the same company. The FireStik is very rigid and will snap if bent. It is meant to be straight. Cool Tech used to have pictures of the FireFly included with their plate mount kits with a child holding the antenna bent almost 90 degrees. I can't find any of those pics. A FireStik will NOT bend more than a few degrees. Something else worth consideration.
I just went to the site right now and an option for a 3' black antenna was there. I didn't notice it before. I just ordered the ultra mount kit with the 3' antenna
I believe its the fire fly antenna.
Thanks for all the replies.

I've broken two of the damned things. I added a spring to the shorter 3-footer last time and have not had a problem since. (Note: running Cooltech LP mount and am quite pleased with it.)

Does the 4' have enough flex so that I can bend it and tie it off so it's about an inch above my hard top? I need to be able to get in to a few parking structures and the 4' won't make the clearance. I left a message with Cool Tech and see if they would sub a 3' in place of the 4'. They haven't got back to me yet.
