Did you check the squelch button like someone asked? I just fixed the issues I had with my install today. If you have a ohmmeter check your connections. I had to ground my antenna mount to the tub of the jeep, Don't forget to scratch enough paint to get to bare metal to make good contact for the ground.

If your not getting at least static thru your mic you have bigger issues than the mount not being grounded.

something else is wrong either the radio itself or a setting somewhere.
and yes i read that you can hear the weather stations.

My point is that not having a grounded mount, bad antenna and so forth is not going to give dead air. you should still get static.

You SWR will tell you the story..
Where did you buy the pictured ground strap?

I looked at where you mounted your antenna it will not work.
There are 2 types of ground you need to know about.
Antenna and Electric.

Antenna ground becomes part of the antenna, when you mount an antenna on a Jeep you should mount it to steel.
For my 2 meter/70 centameter antenna I have a mount on the tailgate of my JK on the hing side. The antenna is only 18-20 inches long and works great.

Electric ground should have fuses in line to protect the electronics. Should go to positive post and to a body ground (not the negative post).

You could use a strap but be sure it is connected to steel not paint. You may need to remove paint to get it to work right. You could get a stainless steel plate about 1'x1'x 1/8" and connect it to the mount.

The mount I have has "set screws" that have points and cut through the paint on the tailgate to get to the steel. Other hams think my radio's will not work with the antenna mounted where it is but it works better then many up high.
The only issue I have is when a bus pulls up next to me, dang things have the worst electric RF on the planet.
