I stuck my 208 and now the kenwood head to the daystar upper with velcro. Stuck it right to the Vertical part. worked great. Didn't look as cool as Frogman's but it worked.

Just my 2 cents, I personally got a Kenwood TM-700A, supports APRS which is nice while wheeling, and is a dual band so I can still use it to talk with. I don't think they sell this model any more, they upgraded it to the TM-710, but it is about the same thing.

And to the person which mounted the Radio to the bottom of the seat, thanks! I loved the idea, and ended up doing that yesterday to mine.

You didn't have a category for both, I own both I have the 7800 in the wrangler and the Icom in a go box, both are great and I wouldn't have a problem with putting either in a vehicle. The only reason I opted the way I did was, when I built the go box the Icom was on sale.

I have a Yaesu FTM-10R in the Jeep and an Icom ID-800H in the pickup.

I went with the FTM-10R in the Jeep because the front panel and hand mic are waterproof. The main body of the radio is not waterproof, but it at least gets a bit of protection because it is mounted under the passenger seat.

The Yaesu uses a modular jack on the radio body to disconnect the cable running to the front panel. It definitely would have been more convenient to have the modular jack on the front panel so that hiding the front panel didn't require pulling the entire 10 foot cable. I have been thinking of putting my own connector in the cable near the front panel to eliminate this minor inconvenience.

I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that Icom is a Japanese company.
