In many areas, 4 wheelers will use channel 4 or multiples of 4 if it is being used by another club or trail group. 4 - 8 - 12 - 16
As for channel 9, the reason it is called the emergency channel is because local police and the highway patrol monitor channel 9. The good news is that you can call the "fuzz, bears or whatever" on channel 9 if you want to report an accident or drunk driver, etc. The bad news is that if you are speeding, let's say, and they see your CB antenna, they will call you on channel 9.

I remember a game played by locals in NW Florida they called rabbit. The players would use the CB signal meter to home in on each others transmissions like hide and seek, played all over town. This would be a wild game if played with Jeeps because of the places Jeeps could hide. The channel was 13, I think.
A long time ago they used to have Clubs in most towns and they had people who took turns monitoring ch 9 in case some motorist had a problem. I think that has gone away now that cell phones are big. Too bad though because out here there are lots of highways still where you may be in a dead zone for several miles without any cellphone coverage.

Same here in our club. Normally 4 but if there are different groups running at the same park we will use 2 6 8 10 12 etc., whatever works.
