Just ordered my CB set up
Ok, so I finally pulled the trigger. Let me know if I left anything out...
Cobra 75
Cooltech GateMount kit
4' Firestik
Antenna disconnect
Good to go?
The only thing I didn't get was the versamount, which I can always get for xmas I hope.
Also, I am not running with my stock tire carrier, so do I have to modify the bracket at all?
Here's a pic.

Then there are only two other things that you may want to consider.
#1. Borrow or purchase an SWR meter to tune your antenna. (this is not an "optional", it's a must if you want your CB to work well)
#2. Consider an external speaker. I found that the speaker in the handset of the Cobra 75 was VERY hard to understand. you can buy external CB speakers for $20 or so and it'll make a world of difference in your ability to understand people on the CB.

Cooltech sells a kit that includes everything you need except the SWR meter and quick disconnect (if you want one). It also includes the Versa-Mount. It comes with detailed instructions for installation on a JK, Cost was $199.00 plus shipping.
I picked up a tiny external speaker at Radio Shack that I plan to install inside the roll bar cover, for less than $10.00, it's about 2"x2".

One thing to note......I installed my antenna exactly like the picture above and I ended up with the most god aweful vibration/humming noise above anything over about 35mph. It was terrible. I could watch the antenna through the rearview mirror on the highway and it was resonating like a tuning fork. Anyway, I flipped the mount 180 degrees to change the airflow over the antenna and now I don't even know its back there. I lost a few inches of antenna height, but it didn't seem to effect my range at all. Plus, with the lower antenna I can get the JK back in the garage
Just a heads up if you end up with the same issue.

nice, yeah...i had planned on mounting it upside down. I might do it right side up and see how it works out. plus, if i'm not going to be using it on the highway (mostly trail use) or to get in my garage, I can always disconnect it and throw it in the back of my jeep. I can't wait for everything to get here. I got everything listed above for $160ish. I'm pumped
