Default just picked up a Midland.

Hey guys. I'm fairly new to the whole CB stuff, but I just bought a brand new Midland 1001z 40 channel CB radio from craigslist for $25. Now I scanned the bar code using my phone's scanner and that's pretty much the going rate for them, but I was wondering of its a decent radio?

perhaps you've heard the old adage: You get what you pay for? I would only have a Cobra - Big Trucker's choice.

I have a Midland 1001Z along with a 3' Firestik. After I tuned it with an SWR meter, it works great. All CB's are rated at 4 watts output so it pays to have a good antenna. I like the smaller size radio because of the limited space in the JK. I think you'll like it unless you want all of the bells and whistles of the big trucker radios.

A CB is a CB. The more expensive radios might be tuned closer to the actual frequency but that doesn't really matter for trail use I'm a group. If you're trying to go for transmit distance then you might want to get it tuned but I'd say it's not necessary. Its got a nice footprint and doesn't look "cheap" so I'd just use it and be happy unless you find issues down the road

I agree with J2010K.
I used to have a smaller size Cobra.
Didn't like it. Bought a Midland, had it
For 2 years, hooked up to a Wilson 3 Ft
Fiberglass antenna, tuned it with my
SWR meter, Love it! Works great!!
