Default Looking to rent an SWR meter

As the title says, I am indeed looking to rent an SWR meter from a forum member. Maybe even just meet up with somebody and use theirs.

The point here is that I cannot rationalize buying one for a one time use. Located in Mercer county, PA.

A cheap usable SWR meter is about $20 shipped if you shop around (less if you trust one off ebay) not much driving before you'll burn that up in gas, or maybe try a local truckstop to see if they'll tune it for you and the cost. The one local to me was right around the same price as a cheap swr meter

~ just a couple thoughts if you cant find anyone local.

A radio operator should never be without a good swr/power meter. It's not a "one time use" thing. Wires get old, plugs get corroded, mounts get broken, grounds get......well, ungrounded. Things change. Many leave swr/power meters inline all the time so they can monitor what's always going on with their signal. It's a good way to protect radio gear.

I guess I'll just buy one. 20 bucks is pretty reasonable.

That is what i did, didnt think i would need it ever again, but for the price i thought eh, i'll just pick one up because it is actually the same price as getting it done, or even a little cheaper.

Since then i have moved my antenna twice and used it both times to doublecheck & i have loaned it out 3 or 4 times as well. I think, for me, it was a wise investment.

Hi! Ask around and find a Ham Radio Operator. It's almost a certainty that there are a few near where you live. If you ask politely I'm reasonably sure he / she would be happy to help you tune your antenna. It's not a big job and would probably take less that 15 minutes to do. Just ask around we're not a "hidden cult" just not all that obvious. Take care...

Default First Post FAIL!

Well after 3 years I'm assuming he probably already found one.

EDIT: Looks like they removed the post, but someone said you could get one on ebay

Nice thing about a swr meter is that it will basicly last forever. The one I use all the time I bought way back in 1973 and even has the field strength antenna that lets you see what you radiation patter is really like.
