So I just ordered this cb and I like that it can be both portable and connected to an antenna. Any recommendations as to whether or not I should invest in an external antenna right away, or am I ok to hold off just for use on the trail?
Any suggestions would be great!

I just bought this too and I'm holding off on the external antenna. I'm only using it othe trail it seems to get about a mile with the attached antenna. I always wheel with friends so I don't see any reason to add the external for now. Hope this helps some!
That's the one I have too, I also have the Cooltech ultramount that mounts the antenna above the license plate holder, and the Cooltech versamount that holds the radio to the side of the dash; I reccomend both.
This is actually a pretty decent CB... if you use it with pig tail for 12v dc power and the rubber ducky antenna, make sure to put tape over coax adapter part of the big tail.
I run mine with a firestick I have on the tailgate mount with a ground wire run... when I go wheeling I just run the cable from the antenna to front seat and use this cb.

I run this CB with a 48" firestik on the tailgate and it works great. It definitely gets better reception than when I just use the supplied antenna and I would recommend it but I'm sure the supplied antenna would be perfectly adequate as long as you are not too far away.
I run this in my rig. I havn't used with stubby antenna as I have it going to a 3ft firestik II mounted on my tailgate. I ran the coax from the tailgate area hidden along seems and under passenger seat and up to center console. When hitting trails just bring CB along and plug and play. Works great this way and have a good reception distance. Recommend you tune the SRW.
