Mods, I m using a Yeasu HT, VX6, with a hand mike, now in the Jeep.
Im considering getting a mobile, either Yeasu or Icom, with detattachable head, as a permanent install.
The HT works ok, I would like the choice of more power if needed.

Vern, Thanks. thats what I was wondering.
I planned on putting fuses on both connections at the battery.

I'm running a Yaesu 857D with a tarheel II and a diamond 2m/70cm attached to an aftermarket radio bar and antenna mounts (from arizonarockyroad). I wouldn't recommend serious off-road, but it'll handle day to day driving.

To answer your question - I'd stick to the yaesu radio.

Forgive another question about the wiring.
Got a line on a FT 7800 that, according to the ad is brand new and should be going in shortly
Im planning on running the wire from the battery, thru the foam plug on the right side.
From there, how do I get the wire over to the driver side without it hanging in the way when Im driving?
Any ideas, and pics if possible, are appreciated.
Thanks.

Works great and I don't have the issue with leaving an expensive radio in the Jeep. I uncouple (BNC) antenna cable and the radio goes with me.
I 2nd this for my needs this works just fine. I hate to see hundreds of dollars worth of my rig leaving my jeep without me.

The Yaesu 7900 is very good. I have one hooked up with my base equipment and really like the performance and ease of use.

Found a 7800 on a ham site complete with the programing disc and everything as it came from the dealer.
Trying to deceide if thats a good move or go with the newer 7900.
Either way, Its going to be a Yaesu as a mobile.
Personally, I like the looks of the Yaesu better than the others.
