I would take it one or two steps further, add a switch to turn off the battery from the outside of the case and have a aux cable for charging and running the cb off a Jeep

Otherwise I LOVE the idea,

Why not just install the antenna on the jeep. Then just plug her in when needed. You could also just rig op a 12v accessory plug for power. Maybe not as portable as the OP's.

I already have a CB and Antenna mounted on my Jeep. So, this is a loaner. I thought about using a magnet mount but then you have wires to deal with. Also, I have seen magnet mounts get knocked off the trails too.

I like having the battery in this. You could easily use it at your base camp. Also, with the weather feature it thought this could be handy around the house when storms roll in.

Can always add a ant switch and a so-239 for a quick connect to a external ant

I have one of the midlands and it surprised me how well it works.

I choose this route because I thought it would be cheaper. I probably could have picked up a used handheld for less. It was a fun little project though.
