Default Ordering Cobra 75 WX ST - Anything I may have missed????

I am getting ready to order the Cobra 75WXST. In the cart along with it I have a 4 Ft Firestik II, HD antenna spring, Firestik 18ft coax, remote connector box, and gonna be ordering a spare tire mount. Is there anything I may be missing or need?? Also, if anyone has any input on this CB as I am a total noob when it comes to this. I am not looking for long range just for communication while on the trails.

Thanks,

Jon

thats about what I had to hook it. I just used zip ties along the way the yo secure the coaxial line. I didn't even use a spring. You should be set to install it.

Get a SWR meter to tune it when you install. You will burn it up if it isn't tuned properly. They are cheap and you may need it again in the future if you install bumpers etc. I put my LoD bumper on the back and my tuning needed to be done again.

Make sure you get the antenna that you turn the knob on top to tune, not one you cut.

Not a huge deal, but I would get an auxiliary speaker. The built in one isn't great. Good call on the spring, I forgot to take my antenna off yesterday before the car wash and I watched the spring away back and forth while I crossed my fingers. It came out fine. Also, get a quick disconnect.

Default Make sure you have a mounting stud.

You need a antenna mounting stud. If you got the "firering" coax it needs a special antenna stud Model: K-4R.. All "antenna mounting studs" will have a white washer, flat washer and locking washer. You might find one with a spring? The stud mount should look like one of the following. It is very important how you put it on there too.

That last image brings to mind having a multimeter. It is a good idea to have one to test continuity. You can find one for less then $10. They are also good for testing batteries. Like AA or car batteries. If everything goes good you might not need one.

With the Firestik firering coax you have to do just a bit of soldering. At least with the kit that I got where one end was off. Basically one of the ends doesn't come with the PL-259 connector on so that it is easier to run. You end up having to solder the wire that goes in the center pin to the center pin. It is like putting a wire into a piece of macaroni and then needing to solder it there. Pretty easy, but you need the supplies (soldering iron and 60/40 rosin solder). I think if I was to do it again I would just get regular coax without the ring and the special antenna mounting stud that is needed.

There is a good chance that your going to want to run a ground wire to get better/lower SWR readings. For that you can get what you need by the foot at most hardware stores. You would want at least 12g and bigger lower gauge wire would be better.

There are a ton of people who think that your radio (cobra 75) needs an external speaker to be loud enough. I would get a small one and mount it up by your head on the roll bar. Check this post https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-w...bar-pad-48921/

Good luck

Burning it up is when you Dont set the SWR and the radio stops working after the frist couple times you key up the mike and try talking in it.
I've done this myself. You have to replace the radio.
