Hey.....haven't heard from you in a long time...!!! Glad you're back and that you've worked out the "kinks" in the system. I talked to a mobile op today in motion outside of Riverton WY. So let me know if you would like to set up a sked sometime. That goes for all the rest of you as well...

And I agree I like 17M also.. I'm not into the contests but I will give out points now and then.
I still have work to do on my radio setups.. and I guess even though I get a really good SWR with a 20M hamstick w/o whip for 11M (CB) it doesn't transmit I do receive but receiving is always easier.... so I have to break down and get the CB antenna... no biggie. After listening to CB I'm not a big fan... for Jeepin it's fine but that's it.
I sure hope you're not inferring that you've ran into contest activities on 17m!

No..
Reread... "And I agree I like 17M also.... I'm not into the contests but I will give out points now and then."
that is a general statement and doesn't refer to any given band.

Yep made it back alive. I'm ready to try the sked again. Weekends are most always good. You want to get really geeky and great a poll and vote on best time/band for anybody interested?

Well, I was just referring to a general sked between me and you or whoever just to get on the air and say hello. If you are talking about the "Jeepers Net" again, then that's an entirely different story....

not sure why I couldn't get it in all CAPS....

so today I went and got a real CB antenna... I decided that I didn't want it to hit alot of branches and I didn't want to spend very much so no flexable antenna..... etc. ... I know I'm cheap...just on the CB antenna..
I bought the KW3 Firestik for $24. I only plan on using the CB during Jeep outings on the trail. the KW3 is a 3ft top loaded antenna so it should work pretty good for trail comms.... mounted off the tire rack..
I tuned it to a little off of my goal.. I wanted the lower side of the band to be the lower SWR.. I cut twice (doesn't take much- 2 cuts, maybe 1/4" at the most after 2nd cut) I ended up with a 1.6 ch1 - 1.5 ch4 (mostly used here on Jeep runs) and a 1.1 ch 30 then back up to ~1.2 ch 40.. I had to put a 3" break away at the base because my second cut took me to 1.9 ch1..1.7 ch4.... I should have filed off after the 1st cut.

anyway it should be good... I'll test it when I'm out next time.

next thing is figuring out the 17M hamstick issue,,, I think I might have ideas,,,,
