Been toying with a few ideas off and on. I made a custom mount that attaches to the roll bar and puts my CB radio (small midland) just above the mirror. I'm just not 100% happy with it. Plus I'd like to put my Cobra 148 in, and have it a little more secure.

I'd like to replace the factory radio and put something in with pre-amp out, sirius, and aux in. I don't really need a double din radio for those options and that got me to thinking.....

Would it be possible to mount an after market radio and a CB radio in the factory radio location?

Has anyone installed a single din radio? What did you do with the remaining space?

 

I have never seen a post about it and I don't think there is enough spae but if you put a single DIN head unit in surely there is a filler kit available. Dodge and Chevrolet have been using large head units for years and many stereo accessory companies make adapter kits. I have had to do it many times in the past but haven't replaced my HU in my Wrangler yet. Lemme know how it works out.

 

You might be able to squeeze both in teh factory hole. I'm not a stereo guru but a few things to consider. Most of the dash kits used for installing aftermarket radios center the radio in the hole, so you will probably need to fabricate your own filler to accomidate both radios. The other thing to consider is that CB's can get VERY hot, especially when transmitting. They are best mounted in "open space" so they can breath alittle. Cramming it in right next to the stereo MAY cause problems with both. I can see a good amount of heat being generated.

 

That's a good point....Didin't think about the heat buildup.
Might be able to use a pc fan to generate some air flow.

I haven't picked up my Cobra 148 yet, but will look at the dimensions when I get it.
