It used to be decades ago, when I was an active ham, that the only agency with legal jurisdiction over radio transmitter installs was the FCC. Since I know it went all of the way to the Supreme Court over a state trying to assert control over FCC jurisdiction (Oklahoma versus Cox Cable over the Playboy channel), and the FCC vigorously defended their jurisdiction, I doubt that a state or locale can ticket for an "illegal" CB radio. However, if the install interfered with the view of the road somehow, that would fall under the state's jurisdiction, and might vary from state to state (some states don't allow things hanging on the mirror, for example).

Okay...so let's bring this back onto topic.

Who's willing to contribute to this beefed up FAQ?

I'm certainly happy to chip away at it, but it's going to be a slow process with just one person.

I do believe this has changed now, (as a lot of things have concerning radio) and the local law enforcement can give tickets for illegal radio ops.

And sure....I'll contribute to the FAQ.

Okay folks - this is a good start.

So far, we have the following people that have offered to contribute:

W Squared
AK4Dave
Donnie

It will probably be a couple of days before I can compose much, as I'm eyeball deep in a project management course right now, and I also have my licensing exam happening tomorrow night....but why don't we start at the top?

How about we each take one section of "The Basic Questions"

Donnie, maybe you could handle?
AK4Dave, maybe HAM?
I'll take a run at FRS?

We can each run out a "rough draft" and then play round table to tweak them.

Add me in to help. I'm not current on the ham stuff, but I can help out with the CB stuff. Tell me what you'd like me to work. I just returned from a trip, so it may be a couple days before I can actually get to writing stuff up.

Sounds great to my, Mark! I think that you've made some excellent contributions to discussion here. I just didn't want to "volunteer" anyone

Sounds good to me, Donnie.

By the way...I just got back home after writing my Canadian "Basic" exam. I scored a 95%, which is good enough to get me "Basic Plus" priveliges. That means that I'm good to go for UHF, VHF, and HF with up to 250 watts.

If I take my "Advanced" at a later date, I will be able to build and install repeaters, remotely control stations, and run up to 1000 watts.
