Cool and the answer is, HAM radio

Based on the situation you described, in the back country and out of cell range, there is really only one reliable answer, HAM radio. Contact your local HAM Radio Club, they will most likely have a website. If you have trouble making contact with your local HAM Radio Club, please let me know. Send me a PM.

Awesome. Due to the advice I've received today, I plan on chattin up a coworker that I know is into HAM Radios for further info.

I will defintely start to educate myself on the topic and if I still have questions I'll take you up on that.

No....HAM radio is not just for emergencies........I talk to my neighbors or all over the world just for the sake of doing so. And I've made tons of great friends as well. But if you plan on wanting to use the CB "channels", you'll have to do so on a regular CB, as it's illegal to transmit on the CB "channels" using a HAM radio.

Problem is Most Jeepers are using CB for trail use.... and a lot of clubs require the CB.
