I will defintely start to educate myself on the topic and if I still have questions I'll take you up on that.
No....HAM radio is not just for emergencies........I talk to my neighbors or all over the world just for the sake of doing so. And I've made tons of great friends as well. But if you plan on wanting to use the CB "channels", you'll have to do so on a regular CB, as it's illegal to transmit on the CB "channels" using a HAM radio.
