Hi all;

just resurrecting this thread from the summer...

realjeep, any way you can post a pick of your NMO mount "under the hood" so to speak?

I'm wanting to go with a Larsen setup (coil and whip) for my 2m rig and the NMO mounting brackets I've found (pic attached):

don't allow for any kind of decent application with how things look on my '08 JK at all

FWIW, this is what Im running on my 09.
Diamond mount with a Larson 2/70 NMO antenna.
Using a HT, it seems to do really well.
Hope this helps.

What are your thoughts on a mount like this

With a longer, high-gain antenna like this

With a PL-259 mounting.

My thought is that you'd get enough of the antenna up above the tire and hard top to avoid most of the shadowing, and still keep your antenna very protected from trail abuse. Sure, low-hanging stuff will still cause it to flex, but you've got enough room between the mount and the point where the flex is happening for the antenna to make a nice gradual bend. I know that this idea work VERY well with a Wilson "flex" fiberglass CB antenna.

Donnie;

Thanks for the tip on the Diamond mounts, I found a Diamond K400CNMO locally and it's just right.

Now, next challenge: where/how did you go through the firewall with the coax?

There is a panel on the drivers side of the dash.
Remove it and you will see a piece of foam.
Poke a hole thru the foam with a coat hanger into the engine compartment and pull the coax
thru the hole.
Refill the hole with expanding foam when finished to reseal.
Here is a pic of the foam area and where I ran my coax.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Donnie;

Yes, I do come through that spot with the wiring for my KC windshield lights; the challenge (which I didn't mention in my previousd post) with the antenna coax is that it already has a mini-UHF plug from the mfg. which appears to be too big a diameter to fit.

I did note a grommet not far from there that I believe carries the washer hose for the rear window, so I likely will try and go through there.

Greg,
The end of mine has a SMA fitting on it.
The way I got mine thru was I stuck a piece of wire thru from the inside and taped the coax then pulled it back thru.
Makeing sure that everything was as compact and smooth as possible.
Hope this is of some help.
