a dual male ended piece of coaxial cable for SWR tuning. Is everyone just making these or can I actually buy one somewhere? If I can buy one from somewhere that also sells SWR meters I'd be interested.

Why do you need such a part? All the swr meters I have seen are inline and would not need the part you are describing?

I'm using a Midland 75-822 w/ the mobile adapter. Basically a portable with an adapter for the external antenna. I read that a 3 foot piece of coax with 2 male ends, also called a jumper, will be needed to connect the meter to the handheld during tuning.

From the Firestik website (add the www): firestik.com/Tech_Docs/Setting_SWR.htm

No sir, I got the same cb. It goes on the 12v/ant car adapter that hooks to the bottom of your cb, and the other side hooks to your antenna cable thats mounted on your jeep.

So you are saying that your SWR meter had the "male" end for the radio side of it allowing you to hook the adapter directly to it?

I'm new to these but have done a lot of reading about them. Maybe some of the material I've been looking at is outdated but in just about every piece of literature I believe it has said the meter has 2 female ends. I've been finding a lot of info about tuning but not much about the different meters themselves. That is the only reason I'm asking for clarification on this.

It looks like you are using the same connector on the coax that the Cooltech kit uses. I plan to order the gate mounting kit w/ antenna and coax on monday but am still deciding on SWR meters. I've seen a few options on Amazon but unfortunately I can't find much locally for these things. The Radio Shack in my area only had 2 choices of scanners and no accessories. I'm about ready to drive to the TA truck stop 50 miles away and see if they have anything at all.

Check Radio shack online I think they can store drop it for you. I just installed a 3rd brakelight antenna and started a thread with pics just for some ideas. My mount cost $8.95 and 18' cable was 9.95. Or it was the other way around on price.
My install write-up below,

Looks good. I think I'm set for right now. I'll ask more questions if I run into problems once I receive and install everything.
