where to put a cb
they may move me but i wanted more people to see this. We have alot of smart people on this site. Somebody out there must have a great way to mount a cb. I am going to get the cobra 29. I do not want to put it on top of the dash or above the rear view mirror. I have seen the Tuffy products and I know there must be someother options. Help don't make mego to a smaller hand held.
I know you didn't want above the mirror... but I didn't just put mine above the mirror attached to the plastic or footman as most are. I made a mount that doesn't require any drilling and clamps down tight. It is just alum tube, L brackets, hose clamps, and duplicolor bed liner. Everytime on the trail people ask about it. I made the elec connections and antenna run through the plastic trim where it opens for the footman loop. I put some disconnect plugs on the wires so all I have to do to remove the entire CB and mount is undo a hose clamp on each sport bar and unhook the antenna and unplug the wires. Nothing to it.

here is the thread, maybe it can give you some ideas for your own install: https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-write-ups-39/no-drill-cb-mount-68156/

I, too, bought a Cobra 29 and fooled around on where to put it. Did not want it up
by the mirror and wanted to be able to disconnect it so it would not get stolen.
So.....finally mounted it on the right side of the center console facing up. Did not
use the given u shaped mounting bracket but bought a couple of L shaped brackets.
Also, the speaker faces somewhat towards me. May not look the greatest,
but it is the best I could come up with.

I know that radio is huge compared to my uniden. I was just trying to help give some ideas. Spool up the creativity machine. I also ditched my U-shaped bracket and I riveted to small L-brackets on to the mount I made. The U just hung too low for me. I would like to see what you come up with. Those big CBs work amazingly well, bnut sure are hard to mount in a little Jeep.
I have seen them in holes cut in glove boxes, holes cut under steering wheels, padded armrests with them inside, even a speakerbox holding it. I can't wait to see.

i was thinking about putting under the rear seat right in the middle. i was also looking at the sound bar. Is there a way to use the 2 holes that hold the hard top? there is someone on the site who cut into the glove box. that looked real clean.

Center Console drivers side. Drawback is I can't move my seat up very much. No one has ever gotten in my back seat but if they do they can't get in on the drivers side. If the CB absolutely has to move it only take a few seconds.
Here are my three ideas.
1. What about mounting it to the center armrest cover? It's kind of low to begin with, so if you could fabricate a mount and then cover it with foam and gray canvas or neoprene it should blend in nicely. Just make sure you dont cover any heat exhaust ports.
2. Mount it up against the rear of the armrest storage area - above the rear cupholders.
3. Mount it underneath the drivers seat. This would perhaps be the least favorable mounting location, but the one that would gather the least attention. Changing stations would be difficult, but on the trail I usually set it and forget it. Mount it ontop of a plank of wood + spacers. That way if your tub gets flooded, your CB should be safe. I've got my amp under there mounted the same way.
All three ideas would require you to run a line to your aux port or an external speaker for best results.
