Default 2011 on board computer at risk during stereo installation?

Hey all! This is my first post, Woooo! Anyways at the dealer I was told never have a deck/stereo installed unless it was done by the dealership. They had me sign a document as proof that I was told. Their reason was that the 2011 computer could short if the appropriate steps were not taken which can result in replacement cost of up to $2500. This $2500 would not be covered by any warranty if the short happened during stereo installation by anyone other than the dealer. Now I'm not sure if the dealer is giving me a fair warning or if they are luring me into paying the high dealership labor rate? Any info is greatly appreciated.

Well there's always a chance of a short... That's why you disconnect your battery... But some amps and computers are know to keep a charge.... Either way have them try to prove it... Your word against there's... What radio did your jeep come with?

I'm going to call the BS flag on this one.

If you disconnect the battery and pull the IOD fuse you should have no trouble installing an aftermarket radio.

I don't think any auto manufacturer would make the radio "non-replaceable except by a dealership" -- that is one of the #1 things a consumer upgrades in a vehicle.

Call another dealership and see what they tell you. I'm sure they're just bluffing.

I installed my MyGIG unit myself -- and all I did was pull the IOD fuse and disconnect the battery. Zero problems here...

You got a write up, or pics on that? That sounds sweet.

I have also been told a few untrue Stealership lines.
I too will have to throw out the B.S. flag on this one.
