Default 7" Touchscreen Head Unit on 2008 JK

Looking to upgrade my stock Head Unit for a 7" Touch Screen w/ bluetooth, iPod, DVD, Backup Camera, etc. ( )

And for anyone who is going to tell me that it's crappy no name Head Unit, I have contaced buyers that have had these units for a while and they are VERY HAPPY with everything.

Do I have to look for a double din? Or is there another type I need? On eBay, good reliable touchscreens from Japan are really cheap and very sturdy. Looking to get one of those but the measurements are 180mm*165mm*50mm (7.08 x 6.49 x 1.96 inches). Will this fit my 08 JK Console? Do I need a double din bracket? Do I need some sort of harness for the cables? Don't know much about these things, so I would really appreciate some help.

The speakers I will upgrade, that won't be a problem. The HU is what I am worried about.

Anyone....

Your measurements don't appear to be Double DIN. The one that I doubt is the 1.96" Double DIN is 4" X 7". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_7736

You don't HAVE to put in a Double DIN. You can use Single but you will have to get a blank plate or pocket. For either SIngle or Double you will need a bracket. Just look for JK Stereo mount. You will find Single and Double DIN.

You will need a harness. You can work around it but that would be a PITA. For Non-Infinity I used the Metra XSVI-6522. It costs around $50 or $60. If you have the Infinity system someone else will know a harness for that.

If you can do basic wiring with crimp connectors or wire nuts the wiring is not that hard. The H/U plug will be labeled and the adapter for your JK will also be labeled. Connect everything you will use and insulate everything you will not use.

If you get a Double DIN you will have to cut a brace out of the back of your dash. I know how bad that sounds but it is really easy. The Metra harness actually had instructions on how to do it.

A radio priced at $199 that "features" that many things seems like a piece of crap.

I wouldn't touch that with a 10' pole. $250 with shipping for a no name brand radio from Hong Kong. Though you have heard good things about it.

Why not buy a Pioneer P-4000 for $330 shipped off ebay. Or if you have a local discount audio store you can pick one up for $275 (that's what I paid.) Just my opinion, but you get what you pay for and you pay for what you get.

Thanks for all the advice. I will look into a name brand. Looked around some more and if I put in a few more bucks I'll get a name brand. I'll start doing some research this weekend. Thanks again!

If you want a good touchscreen multi-function aftermarket radio, sometimes good used eclipse units can be bought for good prices. You can get a unit like an AVN-5435 that is a little it older, but put the new software and map updates on it and have a nice setup. Also bestbuy has been selling pioneers with dvd and gps for like 600 brand new for the past year or so. I would look there maybe.

I would stay away from this type of thing. I have this nigerian friend that always buys that no-name off brand ebay stuff. He always gets burned. When the iPhone came out he bought the iClone. this is the type of radio he would buy and never be happy with because it does not have the features he wants or it broke and shipping back to hong kong is as much as the unit.

If you like the mygig they can be found cheap too. I got my mygig RER new in the box for $250. Add $10 for shipping and $31 for the GPS antenna and I have just under $300 in the whole deal. Take your time, shop around, get what you really want.

I have the Eclipse AVN-6620, it has bluetooth, ipod, dvd, backup camera, and side view camera functionality (they are all addons that are purchased seperately from the main HU, but are made by Eclipse)... if it was me I wouldn't touch that eBay ad.
