I saw another thread created by Grand Umpah, a little over a week ago, in which he states "There are at least 3 different ways to upload GPS coordinates to the 430n unit.........". He loads waypoints for his trail ahead of time.
I have a 730RER and can only enter a single lat/lon entry at a time with no ability to tag or save. It will only show up in the "RECENT PLACES" area after it has been used but is identified only by the lat/lon info which makes it virtually impossible to identify and use later with any degree of reliability.
Does anyone know how, or if it is possible, to either program or save multiple waypoints in the 730RER as can apparently be done in the 430N? This would be EXTREMELY useful for me.
I know there is a lot of experience on this board so thanks in advance,

Well, since I apparently set you up for this, I did some searching and can't find anything that says you can enter waypoints or POIs as GPS coordinates in the 730 nav teq head. Perhaps somebody knows otherwise and will post.
I did find a link to the owner's manual and page 155 has the only thing that even mentions GPS coordinates, but no instructions on actually using it for entering waypoints:
http://www.oemautopartsco.com/produc...RHR_Manual.pdf
The only other thing I found was this:
730N RHR navigation can't find points of interest - JeepForum.com
"The POIs are programmed in by NAVTEQ, there is no way to update them in the 730N short of loading a new NAVREQ data base, one of the annoying quirks of the 730... no custom POIs. These are not provided via the satellite, although the satellite radio has a travel link feature... which are not POIs.
My 730 finds load of POIs based on the current vehicle location (no set up needed as thats the default). Perhaps there is something wrong with your radio. There have been many 730N quirks reported, such as losing home address and displaying blank screens. I think I've read reports of POIs presented for the wrong location, but I could be mistaken."
So sorry about the apparent shortcomings of the 730 for at least this feature, but glad that at least somebody read my post; was pretty sure it was too much detail to be of interest for any but those who really need/use this sort of thing.

It is true there was a lot of detail in your post...and for what I was researching it was Great! There really aren't many threads on 730N navigation.
I've compensated for the lack of navigation ability of the 730N by installing a laptop mount, similar to what you see in law enforcement, and use Topo on my outings.... It's a bit like having w i d e s c r e e n GPS. It actually works great but would like to have a smaller screen (for the wife's comfort) and am concerned about the life span of the spinning drives.
I'm considering ordering a new 2013 Rubicon 10th Anniversary edition and am seriously considering ordering it with the 430N even though the 730N is considered by Jeep to be a higher end unit (and priced accordingly!). I get tired of looking at an icon surrounded by a blank screen when I go on some lesser known trails. The 730N is a good navigational device.....for the city but not for the off-road. One thing that I do find useful on the 730N is the screen that will give Lat / Lon and elevation on the same map page even though the map is only half of the screen. Oh, I also like the ability to create and save a breadcrumb trail.
Thanks for the input, anyone else have any input?
