82212000 iPod adapter question
I am getting the 82211878 "Hands Free Kit" (for my RES radio) but the 82212000 iPod adapter was backordered. If I have the dealer Starscan to activate the hands free kit, will the iPod adapter simply work when plugged in or will that have to be Starscanned again as well?
Anybody know for sure?
Thanks,
Steve

I am considering this myself and am hoping you can confirm the right setup.
I have an RES radio with single-CD and the UConnect Voice Buttons and Satellite radio but no nav screen - just the standard screen with hard buttons
I have the Uconnect kit installed by the dealer - part no. 82211878
And I have been looking at adding the iPod harness - part no. 82212000
I had been of the understanding that only the more advanced radios with nav screens could use the iPod harness for anything other than a charger.
Is my setup compatible or do I need a different model RES? Once I plug in the iPod harness how do I access the iPod from the RES head?
Thanks

The RES unit gets one plug on the back of it from the kit, then the wires that you remove from the radio originaly go into the harnes of the kit. The mic connects to the module that will go behind your glove box and the ipod cable connects to the back of the radio if I remember correctly in the middle between the 2 bigger harnesses. It sounds more complex then it really is. Just make sure that you do not put everything back together until it alll works. The ipod by the way will sit in your glove box and it will charge the ipod and play through the factory radio. You have to have the Service Manager add the handsfree kit to your vin# and then they will use the strarscan tool to activate it. It should take no longer than an hour for the whole thing. Sometimes the dealer doesn't know what they are doing and wind up taking longer and hit you up for the time cuz they didn't know. But I did it myself at the dealership and it's easy. First to the vin then the starscan. Good luck.
Ockham,
You have EXACTLY the same setup as I am using. The iPod cable plugs into the back of the uConnect box that should have been installed by the dealer under your glove box. Remove it and you should see the uConnect box mounted under the brace with a couple of cable ties. You can probably plug in the iPod cable without removing it but if you have to remove the box to install the cable, no big deal.
Once installed, your RES radio will control the iPod. The #1 button will call up your playlists, the #2, Artists, #3 Albums and #6 is Podcasts. I can't recall what #'s 4 and 5 do but they have functions as well. The iPod will charge as well as play with the cable.
There IS one potential "gotcha" that you might run into. If you have updated your iPod (assuming it's a iTouch) to version 4.0 of the Apple software, that breakes a lot of the functionality of the uConnect. It still "works" but not correctly. Apple knows it (now!) thanks to me running into it. If you have version 3.1.3 or earlier, it will work fine.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

Is the RES head unit in control of the iPod and are music titles displayed? What level of control is there? I am concerned that it is just like plugging the iPod into the auxiliary port but with charging.
I just want to make sure I understand before making the investment.
Thanks

Yes, the radio gives you full control. Much better than the small cable. The cable is very inexpensive for what it does. The radio displays the name of the song and you can use the info button to see all the information. It's MUCH better than the aux cable! If you want more detailed info, send me a pm with your number and I'll be happy to add more

Thanks for the fast response. So when you say it plays through the factory radio how does that work?

Looks like I posted my earlier response to easyrider at around the same time you added yours and I must have missed it. Great info. i'm ordering it today.
Thanks!
I found that my iphone 3g and ipod touch will not charge when connected to this cable.,., my older style ipod video and older ipod nano (the short wide one).. both work correctly and charge through this cable....
