Yeah, OK, that won't work then for sure..

Good catch!

What about this, why does it look so complicated if it is just a proxy sensor? I wonder if it replaces the factory security brain? (I have the power/security pkg on my 08 Sahara).

As for DEI, this is all I can find so far:

Proximity Sensor 9505 - $25

Field Disturbance Sensor 508D - $28

(says it is good for convertibles so must not be based on air pressure)

I guess I still find it hard to swallow I can just hook up a proximity sensor to the factory alarm and have it work as expected (assuming the proxy sensor works as it is supposed to, we all know they can be a bit finicky)... If that is the case, and the DEI ones are decent, I guess I will go with one of them... THOUGHTS?? ANYONE AGREE??

like kennykustom I used to be an installer as well and the damn proximity sensors were always the most finiky freakin things to get set before they left from being installed. I have been out of installing for ten years and I hope these things got better because I want one for running topless and doorless and when I swap to the soft top. I always installed dei stuff. it seem like everything effected the things going off, temperature , you name it. clifford, code alarm they all were very hard to get consistent.

OK thanks Rob (and of course the others like Kenny)...

Any recommendation on the proxy vs. field sensor (whatever that is)??

And does the sensor handle the single/dual stage activation or does it have a chirper for stage 1 and on stage 2 it sends the trigger to the alarm brain to let IT do the (honking)?

Naw, the prox still suck. The one you want is the 508D, the clear one on the bottom. I have mine under my console, but when it warms up, i am going to move it up to the sound bar and try it there.

The alarm cant distinguish between the warn/alarm outputs from the 508d. Also, you have to use a relay to trigger the pos dor pin wire.

I dont mid that. Thats the way you should go. It integrates smoothly with the factory unit. If you had an aftermarket alarm, then the viper prox all the way. But with the factory unit, i think that add on is a great solution.

Well the only problem is the add-on factory kit is like $150 and the DEI sensors are like $30.. AND I don't even know if this Jeep sensor kit is worthwhile - I can't get any details on it anywhere...

So let's say I get the 508D for now.. What you say is I wire both (wires) stages to the positive door trigger wire (white/yellow) in the kick panel - this way, when it goes off, it is like someone opened the door??

But I don't see why I need a relay.. ??? Will this not give off 12v? Or is it that this gives off only (-) negative pulses, and the door wire needs as (+) positive pulse??

Otherwise, this sounds simple enough and I see it will work very easily that way by using the factory sensor input (door inputs). Thanks!

The 508D only puts out a neg trigger pulse. You need pos to trigger the door.

If i were you, I would go one of two ways.

Aftermarket full alarm with prox. Much better than the factory...

Add the mopar peice to the factory alarm.

So don't use the 508D and make it do a + door pulse (using a relay) to set off the factory alarm??? (even though you told me to before)

^ I know how to do this, it should not be hard ^

(I'm good with car audio and electronics and only dabble in security but I understand 12v well)

Just a thought... Keep in mind I do not have the expertise of the other posters here.

The EVS I is a factory alarm (it doesn't integrate with your current alarm). So I would try the 508D with your current alarm. Worse case scenerio, if things don't work out well, then add an aftermarket alarm to replace the factory one. And you will already have the 508D to go with it.
