Question Adding Proximity Sensor to Factory Alarm??

I have the factory alarm on my Sahara. I know it's more than just keyless because if you arm it (keyless remote lock) and open it with the keys, the horn goes off, so it is an "alarm" of sorts.

I'm just wondering if I can and how easy it would be to add a proximity sensor to this?

Proximity Sensors use radar rays to determine if any entities have disturbed the perimeter of the vehicle, configurable say at a 5' radius if mounted in the center console area. This way if someone even so much as reaches into your Jeep through a window or if the top is down, it goes off...

Any ideas???

Thanks in advance!!

Look under the drivers side for the alarm box. there should be a few white leads available and this is what you would tap into with a sensor.

Not sure how that relates exactly but its a start

Oh sweet. Any marking on said alarm box or is it the only black box I will find? Under the dash (steering column?), right??

Yes, if it has some extra leads, it should be another (aux) input which a sensor (any sensor hopefully) could tap into and use as trigger. I also believe if you like jumped those two leads together it should trigger the alarm, I suppose that is what I will try first as a test, then I will order a proxy sensor if that works..

careful doing the test since it uses the canbus...
Yes there are five "trigger" wires one gets used for when the doors open and I believe its a positive trigger.
Under the driver side, you might have an amp which is silver, and the alarm is black and ties into the wiring in the steering column.

The factory " alarm " is nothing more than a " contents security " . Meaning, it is meant to protect the " contents " of the vehicle. In the pass kick panel, there is a yellow/white wire that is a pos. door trigger. If you used a Viper 508D prox sensor, there is 4 wires on the unit, power, ground, warn away and alarm. The warn away and alarm are blue and green. Tie those two wire together to trigger a relay to send a pos pulse to the door trigger wire.

Isn't my door trigger wire already in use though? I have the power door locks in my Sahara..

Or are you saying I could just splice this new sensor in on top of the existing door sensor, basically "in parallel" and it would still work the way I want? I need to power the proxy sensor off the battery/grnd by itself too, right?

Thanks for the details, keep 'em coming!!

The door trigger is only in use when the door is open. No worries there. Yes, you will have to power the prox sensor. Ground to the kick panel and grab the power from the large wire on the amp under the dash.
On a side note. I have a viper alarm/starter combo with the same prox sensor. I am also an installer, and have put in quite a few prox. They arent the best thing in the world, nor the most reliable. Very hard to get set just right, with a tendency to false.

Just a heads up.

Thanks, yeah I kind of knew this too but it's better than nothing.

Most likely if anyone breaks in they will go for the center console at some point. Maybe first or second after the glove box.

Even though mine are usually locked, I want the alarm to go off if/when this happens (more likely to with the top and/or doors off).

So I think even if I set the sensitivity low, to like a 2' radius, it should still go off when someone is doing what I said. Especially if I mount it in/near the console itself (like underneath it).

But with that low of a sensitivity, it shouldn't get a false-positive when someone walks by, I hope...

Thanks for the info and while this isn't a silver bullet, but it's better than what I have today which is just a few door sensors and maybe an electrical current draw sensor...

How does this one look?

I want a good one, obviously. This looks like low-end of the spectrum, although DEI/Clifford is very popular, and I could not really find any other brands..

Or what about this?

Ultrasonic Sensor Interior Movement Sensor
The Ultrasonic Sensor is used to provide coverage of a vehicle’s interior cabin area. The sensor detects movement inside the vehicle by sensing air disturbance. They should trigger the alarm if a thief has gained access to the interior of your vehicle.
