Default Aftermarket Amp + Sub w/ Factory Head Unit?

Hey folks,

I did lotsa searching and didn't find an answer, so I'm hoping one of you folks can help me.

I just got a couple of amps and subs for free, I'm going to put 1 10" in the back with a 200 watt amp. What I'm wondering is if the factory head unit has a place to connect an aftermarket amp? This is the stock X head unit without the Infinity upgrade.

I'd rather not rip it apart if I'm going to find out that it won't work. I'd just buy a new head unit in advance.

Thanks everyone!

The answer is no..

You have to either get a) an aftermarket head unit or b) splice into a line level to get your signal.

although splicing sounds bad its quite easy on the jk. I had to tap into the two rear speakers for mine as I do not have a aftermarket headunit. Lemme tell ya as long as you have the roof off the jeep its the easiest I've ever had to splice into. Just pull back the padding on the roll bars and the wires for the rear speakers in the roof are right there. I did a complete clean install in about 2 hours on the JK. Its very easy compared to my previous rides.

X2 on that! I tapped into mine in the same location. I wanted to switch HUs but I love the stock one. My recommendation is to tap into the rear speaker wires, hook up a high level converter, run RCA s through a pre-amp, then to your amp, it allows you to adjust your setup MUCH better than the stock HU and you said you gort the amps and subs for free, so a preamp is a definite worthwhile investment!

Default turn up the amps or volts or watts

i know that a aftermarket head unit puts out a higher wattage or whatever current. is there anything i can do if i installed a LOC and used the stock head unit. everyone says that the aftermarket will make them hit harder. is there anything that i can do to make the subs hit harder if have my stock HU

Not really unless u install a sub switch which u can control the frequency your sub hits on.

Btw do not try and connect the amp to power the stock HU and sub. I have seen people fry their cars from doing that.
