Default Alarm goes off

Why does my alarm go off when I open my tailgate with the key?

Unlocking the lock with the key doesnt disarm the alarm, it simply unlocks the lock... so, you need to disarm your alarm by pushin that lil ol button... does the same thing on all the doors.

and might I add, it is stupid it does that...

Not really stupid. It's good the alarm goes off, since someone can cut a window and reach in to unlock the door.

Now that you put it as simple as that, thanks for making me feel dumb!

Pseudo-related story:

Monday night, the girlfriend and I picked up our new puppy. On the way home, we stopped at a local grocer to pick up a few items. I went in and left the girlie in the car with our new dog. Fifteen minutes later, I exit the store to find the alarm going off on the Jeep. I rush to the car and fine the girlfriend and dog inside, the girlfriend is laughing hysterically.

"What the hell?"

"I tried to open the door, to get some fresh air in here for the puppy. I didn't know that the doors locked and, well, the alarm went off."

As noted, it's great that the alarm works... but boy does it rear it's head in mysterious ways.

That makes sense. I just thought that when you use the key the alarm would be disabled.

So u do disarm the alarm before you open the tailgate with the key? Or are you just going straight to the tailgate and opening it?

Straight to the tailgate. Was wondering what would happen if the battery in the key died.

Its a valet thing apparently. If you lock the vehicle from the inside by pressing the lock button on the door, or by pressing the the lock button on the keyfob and exit the vehicle ... if you open a door after its been unlocked using only a key then the alarm will go off. If you lock the vehicle by exiting and locking it from the outside with the physical key, then the alarm will not go off if you unlock the door with the key.

I guess when you give your vehicle to the valet, you give them a valet key and they lock it from the outside
