Default Alpine vs. Pioneer

I'm getting ready to upgrade the head unit in my JK from its original Uconnect unit, which has served long and well. It works perfectly, but they want too much money to update it (maps included) and my JL has spoiled me with Android Auto. I'm considering the Pioneer AVH2330NEX and the Alpine ILX207SXM.

Does anyone have any experience with these units? Pros? Cons? The Alpine is $200 bucks more, but again, the Alpine system in my JL has spoiled me.

Pioneer Alpine

Opinions are appreciated! (Facts, too!)

Man, this place has died.

I went with the Pioneer. Couldn't beat the price.

I just saw this. I went with the Pioneer AVH4201NEX, which came with the backup camera. I really like it in my 2015 JKU. I upgraded the speakers at the same time and will do an amp and sub in the near future. If you haven't installed yet, I purchased the wiring kit and steering wheel control adapter from Crutchfield and it went in pretty easily, and all my steering wheel controls are customizable.

I have the alpine ILX 207 and am very happy with the upgrade over the 730RHR stock radio I had. Install was real easy as you get all of the harnesses but there is one step where you need to switch 2 wires in order for the voice commands to work. It's in the instructions but I rushed through it and missed it. Otherwise, the sound quality is significantly improved.

There are additional components you can get to play videos or add rear seat entertainment. My only gripe is the microphone that came with it. The UConnect mic was small and I had it hidden in the roll bar padding so it was completely out of sight. With this, it's a mic that you put hanging down from the top of the windshield trim above the rearview mirror. Not a look I really like, but I will say that people can still hear me doing 75mph down the highway with a soft top dancing in the wind.

Thanks, guys! I've got everything I need. It will be installed soon, so I'm looking forward to the upgrade.

Is there much of a market for the old Uconnect nav units? Mine is in perfect shape. It just hasn't been updated. I'd be thrilled to get something out of it.

Well, it was finally installed Friday night. I had to cancel a couple of times due to work related issues, but this thing is GREAT! It works flawlessly with my Pixel 3XL, and the speakers sound better than they did with the factory unit. (I thought the factory unit sounded pretty good.) Anyway, this upgrade really gave the old JK a needed boost in the avionics department, bringing it up to date. One feature I really love is the ability to tilt the screen to get a better viewing angle. Anyway, it all turned out really well and I spent a total of about 350 bucks on the head unit, dash adapter, wiring harnass, and Sirius/XM antenna. It would have cost me $150 just to update the maps in the old unit. Now I never have to worry about that.

I just bought the Pioneer AVH2330NEX for myself for xmas. Should be a great upgrade for the original radio from 2008. One downside for me is that going to a video unit, apparently I need to add a $99 dollar 'steering wheel control' piece, even though I don't have controls on the steering wheel. Whatever. Now I just need to decide on a rear view camera, and then decide if I want to do a front camera as well since it has the inputs for both.

I did not do a rear view camera, but I still might get around to that, so stay tuned.
