Very true.

As for distance estimate, luckily, we have the spare wheel sticking out. If the picture on the screen shows a bit of the spare, it's easy to see how much space is left.

. "However, I do plan on installing one eventually to use as a rock camera / to keep an eye on the trailer when offroading."

I'm considering a front looking camera, pointed to the front wheels.
I, too, wonder how soon will the lens be covered with dirt and useless (on dry trails) ?

I picked up a Lockpick on eBay for under $200, and a couple of under $20 cameras on Amazon. The install was pretty easy and there are videos online that show how to take apart the dash and slide the radio out. I've only installed one camera (backup) in the bumper just above the hitch, and I did remove the bumper to drill the hole, but that was easy as well.

I plan on putting the other camera forward facing, possibly just above my fairlead.

My wife backed into a pole several years ago the first week she got a new car. She had never had a backup camera before and was only looking at it. She didn't see the pole that off to the side and it glanced off the edge of the bumper. You still have to use your mirrors and check the sides, but the camera does let you see the blind spot directly behind you, which is bigger if your lifted (plus I have a child seat in the middle of the back, so I have virtually no visibility with my rearview mirror.

That's why if you have a backup camera you really need backup assist also. I have both on my 2012 JKU. It beeps and lights up if you get close to any object, then you can use the camera to see what's back there. As a NYC cop for 23 years I saw two backup tragedies. Absolutely horrible. We have three vehicles in my house all with both.I will NEVER buy another vehicle w/o both.

I know what you mean. Were these oem options, or did you have them installed aftermarket?
