Did them yesterday with painters tape and xacto knife. 15 minutes and they were done.

The pictures look great but pictures are one thing. Do they really look good in person? What kind of clearcoat do you recommend or is it possible to strip the stuff off and reapply when necessary?

Yes they look really good in person. I use dupli color color match clear coat, it's right by the VHT in the auto parts stores usually. And yes it's a very thin paint and will come off with paint thinner. Also if you ever decide to make it darker just clean, sand, and spray over. No need to strip then spray..

The only thing to watch out for is that TX (and I'm sure most states) require 2 red reflectors to the rear.

I tried this out on a clear lens I had laying around. I started with a really thin coat and waited a half hour and hit it again. It very spotty and not st all even. Any suggestions? Will a third coat or curing "smooth" things out? Should I put it on thicker?

A smooth clear lens is the hardest to do. Did you sand it? If not try wet sanding with some 400 grit. (at this point you need to sand to make it right) It is crucial to make sure it drys 100% or it will spot. Make sure it is cleaned very well, wipe down with alcohol lightly after cleaning with water. Next do the first coat very thin. Enough to make it even but not black yet. Don't wait 30 min in between coats. It is easier to lay smooth waiting only about 5 minutes in-between coats. Also don't hold the can too far away or it will become (foggy). Try about 6-10 inches depending on the airflow where you are painting. Also make sure it's not super humid. try 2 really light coats and if needed make the third coat a bit heavy to even it out completely. Hope this helps. Like I said that's the hardest lens to paint, rough ones like our tail lights take VHT very well. Good luck.

Used nite shades from advance auto parts. Did 3 very light coats. Didn't do the side of rear tailights to keep some safety. Also blacked out my front yellow blinkers on grill
