Default Blacked out tail lights?

Hey everyone, I'm just looking for a way to black out my tail lights other than by using any of that spray tinting nonsense.

I did find the IPCW LED Tail Lights in Bermuda Black, which are great! Just exploring cheapest option.

What's wrong with VHT? It's only $12 plus cost of tape.

It darkens the lights too much and gets to a point it can be illegal and I happen to be a police officer so I don't want to risk my lights being illegal.

There are a couple posts on here about making your own LED t-lights. The end product turned out pretty well.

You have to do it with light coats, its not jet black, you have to do a lot of coats to get them like that, you can do it with just a few coats and it works great, but i do advise you to spray some clear coat on top of it cause it will dull after a few months.. you can also paint the inside of the lens instead of the outer side if you take the time to do it....

I got pulled over by state trooper last week and he didn't say anything about it. I put two coats and they look real dark but when the lights are on you really can't tell they are tinted.

FYI. The IPCW Bermuda Black tail lights and third brake light do not have a tinted lens. The lens is clear but the plastic where the LED's are mounted to is black. I just got mine last week and installed them and was a little surprised by this. Don't get me wrong, they still look good, just not what I thought by looking at the pictures on the internet.

Well I have had mine done with VHT for two years now... very light coat, still illegal. Looked up florida and federal laws... any type of coating over a dot approved lamp is illegal.... you could fight the 300/1000 feet visibility factor but either way it is illegal. I guess after two years I just found an officer that wanted to F* with me.... He first tried to get me for my factory hard top tint after he did his little light test and it was in limits I think he just had to find something else....
