I just read a post on the nitro forums where someone is experience the same exact issue as me, with a unit from the same ebay seller.

He's being told that his unit is the CAN-B and he needs CAN-IFS.

At the end of all this, at least I'll have collected enough info to educate the next guy.

I'll know for definite in a couple hours, wether or not i'm sending this one back.
It's not so much that they are making new units to fit in older cars, but that not all models have been upgraded to the higher speed bus. In 2007, the only DCX vehicles using the upgraded bus were the Sebring, Nitro and JK. For the 2008 model year that has changed, but there are still models that use the older/slower bus.

Something else is bothering me about your explanation though -- REN is not a MyGig. MyGigs are all RER codes as far as I'm aware. OK, so I've done some research, and it appears that the MyGig is referred to as REN but only in conjunction with vehicles that have the older/slower bus. From what I'm aware, you won't be able to get that to work on a JK, it is not capable of communicating across the newer/faster bus.

Sorry--

The unit has the big touch screen, dvd, usb, FM/AM/Sirius (no GPS)
I'm not sure model it was made for, (seller says it was not pulled), but according to the service tech this afternoon, you are not able to order a unit like this for the jeep (it would come with GPS)

The computer is unable to communicate with the radio, pretty much confirming the slow bus issue.

The tech also claimed that 2008 models are different from 2007 models, and suspected that this radio is from a 2008 "other car"

As I re-read the auction, the seller claims it is a "2008 Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge radio", but the title reads "'07+ CHRYSLER JEEP" So I think I am within my rights to return it; hopefully they will not put up a fight.

Seeing how it's a 2008, this lines up with what the tech said about 2008 not being compatible with 2007 models. I personally think that this unit is made for a sebring, which pins out different.

Now the search goes on to find a similiarly priced unit for ME.
I will only be even trying to get a used "pulled off of an 07 wranger" unit, and really all I want is the USB input. I'd like the hard drive and the nav but that's gravy.
grrrr.

Ok guys, lots of people buying the wrong type of Mygig for their Wranglers on ebay. For some reason DC decided to use many different types of Mygig's in their different cars. Here are the correct part numbers for the 2007 and 2008 Wranglers:

2007 Wrangler/Nitro 5064080AG
2008 Wrangler/Nitro/Liberty/Carvan/Town and Country 5064400AH

I don't know why there is a difference between a 2007 and 2008 Wranglers but there is. Also the Mygig for the both years of Wranglers is the "RER" not the "REN" or whatever else. So be careful buying them on ebay. This info came from a parts department manager who was bored one day and did a bit or research.

Yes, as was pointed out in another thread - this model is for another DCX vehicle and will not work in ours. And I believe the "tech" is wrong - the new MyGig is the same as the old one - just a newer firmware. I believe it is still the RER/Q/S in 08s. I haven't seen anything to indicate otherwise.

Hopefully you can get a refund - but hey, at least you tried so now we know. Thanks for being the test dummy.

I for one would sure like to know why the different part numbers. I could understand if the "G" and "H" suffixes indicated software version differences, but I find it odd that the "4080" and "4400" are so far apart.

I wonder if they made changes to accommodate U-connect or some of the entertainment options?

well i jsut got one off ebay, it says its for 2007 wranglers and nitros only so i think im ok there, i also got a mygig gps antenna because the item did not come with one, (i have a manual transmission, if that matters)

does anyone here know if i need to flash my jeep? also will the dvdplayer work when my parking brake is up? i know there is some issues with that so it may not, I am close with the service department (meaning they like that i bring tsb's and dont rush them for my truck back) so I can prob get them to enable the dvd playback for me (not sure if its legal in NY) any info anyone can shed on this would be great
