Default Can-bus RES or REN or ????

Can someone explain what RES, REQ, REN, etc mean in relation to the CAN-BUS system?

Google is not playing nice with me today.

They are simply the model names of the various head units. They have nothing to do with the CANbus that I know of.

Thanks.

I have a service appointment (flash) this afternoon, and I'll post back with good or bad news about my new system.

Now's when I wish I had one of those do it yourself flashy thingy things.

I gues my story is dragged out across multiple threads at this point.

My current condition is:
I bought a "new not pulled" sirius mygig (no gps) REN off of ebay to replace my single disc sirius unit RES.

It took about 8 minutes to swap units, but the new one doesn't show me anything on screen. It will eat and eject discs, but no sounds present.

I first assumed it was busted.
But then I read someone mentioned a security "feature" where you need to flash the jeep computer to let it know what unit your jeep has in it.

My dealership service department claims to swap them out on the lot "all the time" with no flash needed, but said they'd plug it up and take a look.

A neighboring dealers service department says it's in the jeep computer, and it just needs to be programmed right.

...

So, we'll all see.

Shouldn't require a flash that I know of. Sounds like you installed an older low-speed CANbus unit. It won't be compatible with the high-speed bus in the JK.

That's the other story I'm worried about.
This could be new "old stock" but how much older can it be? MyGig was introduced in 2007 year models, no?

This guy could tell you:
http://stores.ebay.com/mr-cd1

There are definitely different "MyGig" head units. The ones compatible with the JK are still harder and more expensive to get.

See (compatible with JK):

vs. (not compatible with JK):

i've looked all through that guys auctions already.

Only plausible explanation I can come up with is if "they" are making new units to install into older model cars.

I'll know for definite in a couple hours, wether or not i'm sending this one back.

I've always heard the opposite - especially when going from RES to REN/Q. Well hopefully a flash will do it for you.
