In my 2012 I would turn the light stalk one click and the parking lights would come on. Turn them a second click and the headlights would come on. Now I've got a 2014 and turning the stalk one click turns the headlights on instead of the parking lights. I have no idea how to turn on just the parking lights alone. Another weird issue maybe related is I've had to replace the driver brake light bulb twice in a year.

Any ideas why I can't run in parking lights only mode?

 

Sounds like the multi-function switch is going out or shorted. I would take it to the dealer to see what the issue is.
