Default Command Start

Here's my scenario:

I own a 4 dr JK Rubicon (manual trans) without the power package (windows & doors)
After coming down with a firm price for the vehicle when I bought it, I asked them to throw in a command start (not a factory installed one). Dealer said, sure no problem. Now is the time when I want to install this. I went to the dealer and they said they don't have a unit that supports the non-power group.
I said no problem, i know a guy who does installs for a lot of other dealerships in the city.
Dealer said, great, here' s the money.
No my buddy says can't do it. Doors come off and it's a manual trans. too much liability. (i.e. someone puts it in gear, etc. starts it, goes through garage)etc.

I know they can install a command start at the factory on manual trans. JK's, so what's the deal?

Is there a delay switch that maybe knows when the doors/roof is off or what?

Thanks

For what it's worth, I bought my 6speed in Cary, NC at a very big dealership. They had probably 200+ jeeps on the lot I couldn't find a single 6speed with the remote start, nor would they install one for me because it was a manual. I think you mentioned the exact problem. Just in case someone does leave it in gear it would be a VERY bad day and the idiot would probably blame Chrysler. I guess they just don't want to deal with that. Anyhoo, best of luck trying to make it happen though!

Sorry, there is not one Factory installed remote start out there installed in a 6 speed. If you go to Jeeps official site and build your rig and soon as you select the remote start function it will tell you "you must add the auto to install this feature".

Way to easy to cause a accident. Can you imagine you out with a group of friends or a club run and you park and leave the jeep in gear so it wont roll down the hill. So you walk over to watch each person overcome a obstacle and your keys are in your pocket. Then put your leg up to get up to a good spot to watch and the button on you remote gets pressed and Vrooooom your rig starts and plows into everyone else's rigs and then slams into a tree or drives off a ravine.

x2 on what whpony said...must have auto and the power group for the factory remote start. I have it on mine and it's great.

i tried to get command start on my manual and factory does not make one and no one will install one. After having the jeep a while, it would have been a waste becuase I don't feel comfortable leaving it out of gear and I would never use it.

When i bought my Jeep, the dealer installed a system from a company called, Ultra Start. They put the "1256m Remote Starter". It is fairly customizable, and works pretty well. The only thing i have to do now, is "desesitize" the alarm. It goes off if a large truck drives by, however this is an easy process, i'm just lazy.

Most shops are hesitant to put a r/s on a manual tranny, and they wont touch a convertible.

See, I think it would be fun to do it on a manual. If for no other reason than to have a remote operated Jeep at the trail run. Point it in a safe direction in Low transfer first gear, and then hit the button while everyone is sitting around the campfire later.
