Default Compressor problems - help

Hoping someone may know of a good fix. I have a smittybuilt portable air compressor and it only runs for 30 seconds before it pops the units internal fuse and I have to reset it to get it going again. Any ideas why this may be happening.

Need to know more.

12 volt? Model number?
How old is it? How long is the power cord you are using?
Does it shut off when connected to a tire?

Yes it does shut off when connected to a tire. I use the alligator clamps they came on it.

the filter is off of it, you may have dirt and stuff in the piston or moisture may have got in there and started to rust. Some added friction may be causing the fuse to blow. Not much to the inside, just a piston and a couple of one way air valves.
