Default Computer updates

Got my fogs today and planned on installing them before Friday when I take it in for it's usual service. Then I read that they have toupdate the computer to make them work. Now I am truly pissed that I pay this type of money for a factory part (and I got them at a damn good deal) and I have to pay another $100 for a computer update. Then I ask about the tire size change for my lift and I was told they have to update tire size, pinion angles and a few other things if I lift it. Also I was told that this can't all be done at one time, each one has a price of $100. I understand chrysler like to make money but they are about to piss me off and I will just start keeping recipts and do everything myself with the exception of the 5 year for the lifetime. Actually I will cancel my appt on Friday now. I am pissed

There's no reason they can't do them all at the same time...If the modifications are already done and mechanically installed, they just have to take the extra 10min in adjusting the computer. Theoretically I guess they could pull the, "Oh, well we have to update the computer, then you need to drive to see if the reset throws a code. If we do them all we won't know whats wrong if it throws a code at us"

which is a b.s. excuse, any error can be tracked down with the code#. Did you buy the fogs from this dealership?

Well...there goes my idea of trying to get them to hook it up for free...Chrysler's going to charge you $100 for the computer shenanigans, there shouldn't be a limit on the amount of things they can flash in for that price though.

Being charged once, or for each item, is up to the dealer. Some people have been charged nothing for some of this stuff.

I would think that programing a factory part would have been done at the factory. Aside from that each dealer charging different prices...well I will not state my thoughts or my post will have to be edited and I have goofed once today so I will behave.

The thing is, if it wasn't installed at the factory, the computer has to be told not to look for it, so its absence will not through a code.

Installing an OEM electrical part means the computer has to be told it is there, so it will recognize it, test it, and send power to it.

Call another dealer, they should only charge you to update it once not for each item that is changed. Did you get the transmission recall flashed yet? I've heard of a lot of dealers making other changes for you when you get that done.

A little sarcasm there?

Yes, the bulbs are constantly monitored when the computer is told fogs are in the system.

This may be a code for a blown bulb:

B16F9–FRONT LEFT FOG LAMP CONTROL CIRCUIT HIGH

  • When Monitored: Continuously.
  • Set Condition: When the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) detects a HIGH condition.

Possible Causes
-CHECK GROUND CIRCUIT
-GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN
-CHECK FRONT LEFT FOG LAMP CONTROL CIRCUIT
-FRONT LEFT FOG LAMP CONTROL CIRCUIT OPEN
-FRONT LEFT FOG LAMP CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE
-FRONT LEFT FOG LAMP BULB
-TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE

edit to add:

I have assumed it does actually have to be programmed to activate the added fogs, as stated in the first post.
Have you installed them, and tried to turn them on?
