I've seen a write up somewhere you can either cut it pull the ball off & re glue it on & paint if you want or cut put heat shrink around it shrink it cap it or reinstall ball & that's it or just buy one from antenna x

I pulled the ball off the top with a pair of vise grips. Then I cut my antenna to desired length. To get the ball back on I had to grind down the end of the antenna. Forced the ball back in place; it was snug enough that I didn't need any type of adhesive. Although alittle jb weld probably wouldn't hurt. Next I coated with spray under coating and then black pray paint. Maybe affected reception just alittle but I think it looks much better and out of the way for the trail.

Cutting the stock antenna and bedlinering it, or even paint will make for horrible reception. There is a wire that runs up to the top to the ball and by cutting it u kinda ruin the stock antenna. Just fyi.
Checkout antenna x if u want to buy a stubby.
Or u can buy a hidden antenna/glass mount and stick it to the top of the roll bar under the padding like I did, and cover the stock antenna mount hole with a trail rated badge...
Just remember to buy the correct antenna adaptor which I think is the one for a vw.

Yeah, antennas are made to a certain length for the frequency band of intended use.

How about posting some pics of what you guys are talking about.

All the more reason to ditch it totally. All I listen to is sat, or the ipod so no need for antenna. The hidden one works ok, def not as good as the Stocker but it works if your closer to the station source.
