Default GPS mount

I'm thinking about this mount for a GPS, http://www.bracketron.com/main/index.php?model=343&submit=Go&make=Jeep&catid=2&pi d=11 but I don't know how to get the dash apart to put it in. Has anyone used the Dash trim tool to take the dash pieces off? And just what type of clips is it under there? I don't want to pay the dealer if I don't have to but I don't want to break the dash pieces or clips either.

Do a search, you'll find many people including myself have done it and its really on big deal at all. All you need is a pick tool set. The clips that hold the dash together are easily taken apart with a little force.

You absolutely don't need to have the dealer do it. You won't break it either, its plastic - if anything you'll scratch it. Just be careful and you'll be fine.

I have that mount for my Garmin Nuvi 650. I use it with the Garmin adapter from proclipusa. It works great. You don't need anything special to take off the dash pieces. There are several threads that describe it in great detail, but the only tool you need is a 7mm nut driver. The top cover comes off from the rear (edge closest to the windshield) with a clip on each side. The panel at the bottom comes off next with two clips at the top, but I've found it easier to pop the bottom out first. Then you will see four 7mm screws holding the center bezel in place. Once the screws are removed there are I believe two or three clips on each side. Just starts at the top and gently work your way down to the middle. Then start at the bottom andwork your way up to the middle. Like I said there are several links that go into much more detail with photos, but it is very simple.

I have that mount for my Magellan. Piece of cake to install. There are write ups with pics here, and the bracket comes with decent instructions.

I'm getting the nuvi 650 in a few days, you get good signal with that setup? the antena is right on top of it and i thought you need to keep it by the windshield...
