Help with sound system
I have a sport Jk 2011, I have the stock sound system(not the infinity system). I recently replaced the roll bar speakers with the replacement kickers. I have also noticed I have the wiring in the back for the stock sub, and happened to find a guy selling his, I would like to buy it, but i came to a hult. doesn't the infinity sound system with the sub come with a stock amp. If i put the stock sub on my setup, what does the wire go to? Do i have a amp or is it just going to run off the stock HU. and if so will the stock HU give me some nice power for the sub. why would the wire be there if i couldn't plug a sub into it?
There are a few threads on this topic. You will need a line output converter, LOC, that sends a signal to an amp. It is a $15 part and a really easy install. The non Infiniti system has no amp for a sub, unless I completely missed something.
So with a line output converter
it takes the signal coming through to the back of my jeep to rca that would go into a power amp. Any sujestions on a amp and what the stock sub can take?
but more importantly dont most amps accept standard speacker wire wearas the stock sub is going to have a line hookup? is there another adapter i have to get.
If not i guess if the demetions of the box arnt to small i can buy a better speaker put it in the same stock housing pluged into amp of choice straight out the the cord into the HU.
whats everyone opinoin on this.

Right, some amps do have that high pass filter. Check your rating on the sub and that should tell you what power you want from an amp. I went with just 480w Alpine to a single 12" sub and it's plenty for me.
Also, yes you can buy a better speaker. There are threads on here for that. You can also dynamat and polyfill that enclosure for better sound. It all depends on what you want to spend and what you want it to sound like.
Well i started off i just wanted the stock sub because it was cheap and would give me a nice extra kick that my system just doesnt have. but now that i need to by a amp for a stock speaker i know nothing about i almost want to put a better one in if im already getting a amp. I dont want anything crazy just something to add some nice sound. and well not sure on this but im also going to be running top down alot so. i dont want something to expensive to get stolen and also one that might be waterproof? is the stock sub waterproof?

How did you discover your Jeep had the sub wiring? I'd like to check my 2012 base model.
I've been reading the audio upgrade threads and it would appear that the kicker amp upgrade won't work on a base model non-Infinity system because there's no existing amp to replace. I kind of hoped maybe all the Wranglers might have the same wiring harness and therefore the upgrade might be feasible. I've had both Ford and GMC trucks where the factory wiring was already in place for certain upgrades like cruise control (Ford) and Driver Information Center (GMC). If the Wrangler followed that patten maybe the wiring for the Infinity amp is already there and the fact you've found sub wiring even though you don't have a sub gives me some encouragement.
