Great idea. I do not know any specs on the bulbs. But I can tell you a little about LEDs. They use less power, because the light is more directional. So you end up with very bright, directionally localized lights. An example can be found in looking at all the cars with the LED tail lights.

That being said, you can find applications of what you are talking about on sailboats. Often they need low power lights to read charts etc.

I do, but do not own a boat. Lot of fun, very peaceful.

Or, a bright moon. Shot while moored off Key West in 2006:

You can replace the front dome light with a LED, no problem. Most LEDs will NOT be as bright though. I tried a few before settling on the 4210-WHP6 pictured here: superbrightleds.com/specs/festoonhp.htm It's a little smaller than the stock one, but if you pinch the connectors a bit, it fits just fine.

Now the rear one is a different story. There needs to be a minimum draw on this one, or it doesn't light up, or flashes like crazy. I used another 4210-WHP6 here -- it flashed until I added a resistor. I forget the strength of the resistor though. I tried a few and they all worked, so used the lowest amperage one I had.

Slide a thin key or something up one corner. Use a flashlight to check which side. Note that when the clear plastic cover swings down, it allows the four retaining tabs holding the light in place to swing inwards also, so the whole light can come down. :-) If it does, just push those four tabs inwards, push the light back in place, then snap the lid back (it'll push those tabs out again to hold the light).

dont waste your time with a replacement sized LED Bulb. Go to
w w w . o z n i u m . c o m They are super bright, look killer and they are known for great products.

Get there Dome light...it is a universal kit that comes with a bunch of dummy bulbs and a flat LED strip...they are sick I had them in my BMW, and I just ordered a set for my new Jeep.

If you want the part number for the bulbs I think it is a 194 not sure just go to Sylvania's site enter year make and model and they will tell you the size of every bulb in the whole rig. Which should make doing a full blown LED swap a breeze.
