Default Jeep Wiring and SC Flashpaq?

Question: I'm getting ready to wire up a winch to the stock battery. I also have the SC Flashpaq programed.

Actually, this question is for when I do ANY wiring: CB, winch, lights, etc.

1) Do I need to disconnect the battery cables first to prevent any issues?

2) If so, is the super chips programming ok to keep on or do I need to return the Jeep to stock first?

I ask cause I've read about the whole-disconnect the battery for 10 mins to reset the computer.

Does that just "reboot" the computer and the SC programming is kept or does it "reset" the computer and everything is returned to stock....to include deletion of the SC programing.

Hopefully someone can validate for me, but here is what I'm thinking after gathering bits of info on what happens.

If you flash the ECU (computer) and you:

- disconnect a terminal = no loss of programming
- disconnect both terminals for 10+ mins = no loss of programming
- change out battery = no loss of programming

But if

- the dealer updates your ECU = loss of programming
- switch to a different programmer (ex SC flashpaq to Hypertech) = loss of SC programming

Am I wrong?

Wow I never thought about that. Subscribed in hopes of an answer.

Ok, winch was installed a while back and was easy. If I had just looked I would have seen that you can add wires without having to totally disconnect.

But the question still remains: What happens to the SC Flashpaq programming when the battery is dissconnected? does the computer memory require power to remember the programming?

I'm thinking nothing happens....it programs the computer. Just because I disconnect the battery doesn't mean it is reset. Kinda like a computer battery.

But, what about this idea of disconnecting the battery to reset shift points?

I just don't want to switch out the battery one day to only have jacked up the computer.

Screw it, I may just reset to stock before I do any disconnecting of the battery.

You are not wrong. You are correct.

100% correct the programing is kept in the memory of the ECU it can NOT be lost if it looses power for any length of time.

Awesome, thank you all.

I've been thinking of disconnecting the battery to reset the shift points. I'm tired of it "figuring out" it should down shift when I'm practically up the hill on the highway to just shift again when I crest it. I do have the overdrive off untill I regear. In the mean time I do the "quick press of accelerator" at the bottom of the hill to trick it into downshifting.

You understand the disconnecting the battery will not "reset" the JK's ECU to stock. The best thing to do is use the flashpaq to flash the ECU to stock and then start over.

Oh, good point. It is when the ecu is reset (needs to be flashed back to stock) that it will relearn my shift points.

Thanks for catching that.
