Default KC highlights question...

I received a set of the KC HiLites 5" Apollo Pro Driving Lights for Christmas and they came with a free set of windshield mount brackets. Can anyone tell me if these lights are designed to be left side and right side specific?

I noticed both my light housings to be identical with the wires of both exiting from the right side when looked at from the front. On the passenger side mount the wire exiting the housing will be able to be tucked under the cowl.

The drivers side wires exiting the housing will have to be ran around the housing before being tucked under the cowl as the wires do not exit on the cowl side.

Also both lights only have maybe 6 inches of wire exiting the housing and have a quick connect attachment that is too bulky to fit under the cowl. All the installs I have seen here seem to not have this connection. Do most users simply cut this connection off and splice the wires for a thinner fit?

Thanks for any help as a search turned up nothing for me.

They are not side dependent & you can usually turn that rubber to point where you want.

Thanks for the reply and I see no way at all to modify this wire or turn it somehow. Both housings have a small hole on the far right side when looking at them from the front. The wire exits this hole on the right of both housings that are identical.

The drivers side is not even close to being long enough to tuck under the cowl. The very large plug on both lights also will not fit under the cowl. Neither side has enough slack to use the factory fitting and it looks like I will have to cut both plug in type fittings off and just splice them.

It looks like this will be a little more difficult to get a clean looking installation and I was hoping others have tried the same set of lights I received. They were bought at Quadratec and it is the link below for the exact ones I received...

Just connect the slip connectors, tape them, cover with wire loom and tuck it in the corner of the cowl. When reinstalling the cowl it will bend a little and be just fine. Or if you want to get super technical you can splice or soder on the wiring harness before installation.

I had the same issue with my D2s, but I just gave the wire a good pull and stretched it just enough, that with a little pressure the cover went over the wires and looks nice and clean. Plus I ran it in a little higher between the metal then I had planned.

Hi,
I went through the same thing yesterday. The plug ins especially do not both fit under the cowl and because of that, I cut them off and wired them directly using tube conenctors and plastic shrink wrap. I made sure that I had eneogh of the rubber sheath to go all the way to the light housing as well. I took the cowl off so I could secure the sheath of wires to the sides of the cowl cavity with sticky blocks and zip ties as well. That should help keep the wires from slipping.
hope that helps. I did also notice that both lights were the same and were not side specific ( surprising actually)

When I mounted my Slimlites the pigtail coming out of the light wasn't long enough to get the plug under the cowl so I went and cut the plug off and spliced in a few extra inches of wire using heat shrink butt connectors and then put some heat shrink over that that matched the color of wire so you can't even really tell it's there and now the plug is under the cowl and I can still use the plug from KC's wire harness

Here's a video on KC lights windshield install.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Rczal0pz6g I installed mine on my bull-bar. It's best to run the wires under the light along the bracket and zip-tie them to the bracket. From there you can go any direction you want. I didn't modify the KC wiring harness. I did cover with wire loom.

Could not fit mine under cowl either. I don't think they look bad. They are sticking out. I think the connections are water tight. Not sure though.

As this set of lights came with free windshield brackets I really assumed the lights would be designed to be mounted on the windshield. It seems that these are much different than the others I have seen however I do plan to make them work somehow.

Headed to the store now to find some heat shrink style connectors and I plan to add a little wire and extend the factory connectors enough to go under the cowl. Thanks for the input as I was starting to think I had received some factory defect lights but now see this is normal.
