Default Found a new solution to buffeting!! And it was out there the whole time...

As a follow-up, Southern Offroad in Alpharetta, GA had something that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere in the multitudes of threads on the different forums and countless Google searches I've done about light bar buffeting and it has been fantastic. I would say it makes a 90-95% improvement to what I considered horrible buffeting. It's a product by Skid Row Offroad called the Top Prop and includes 2 fiberglass bows, about 1.5" wide and mounts that "bow" from roll bar to roll bar, one over the front seats and one over the rear that take all the slack out of the soft top and eliminate the buffeting entirely. You still have the wind noise created by the turbulence from the light bar, but the flapping of the soft top is virtually gone. The bows are a flat fiberglass surface, so I did put some soft adhesive pads on the top of the bow as there can still be a little flapping noise against the fiberglass at interstate speeds, but with the pads that noise is completely eliminated!

Now that I know the name of the product I've done a search for it and it seems that pretty much all of the big online aftermarket shops carry this product. I can't believe it didn't come up in any of my searches, but it didn't. Hope this helps others that are fighting with this issue, but really don't want to get rid of their light bar.

Question for others who have had this problem:

Do you have the cable from the light bar coming in through the top of the windshield/under the soft-top? I am currently experiencing the same problem with way more wind noise than I had before I installed the light bar. My wire is coming right inside the Jeep from the bar as I was unable to make it fit by putting it between the bracket and the A-pillar.

No, my wiring harness is run down the inside of the bracket, into the engine compartment under the vented cowling, and then in throw the firewall to the rocker switch panel.

The additional wind noise is likely not being caused by the cable coming in under the soft top, but the turbulence that is created by the light bar itself. Next time you have your top open or down, put your hand up well above the light bar and then bring it down near the top of the light bar. You'll feel the turbulence that I'm talking about, it's pretty significant.

Default Lights Bar mount wobbling

Hi mate,
I've re-created your lowering technique.
I found it's made a massive improvement to the noise in the cab when the soft top is up.
However... I've found my brackets now wobble left to right when i hit a bump. I'm worried about the stress this puts on the bracket and them snapping. Does yours do this??

Cheers,
Matt.

My brackets are very stable they are the ones that run the entire length of the A pillar and held by 3 or 4 of the factory bolts.

I tried this early on after installing the light bar. Don't waste your time or money, it's useless. It actually makes things worse as it does absolutely nothing for the buffeting, but creates a whistle that is horrible, far worse than any whistle you might get from the light bar itself (which can easily be stopped with these: E/RDS-Series Resonance Damper 40280 | Rigid Industries

I have the Lifetime brackets: https://www.lifetimeledlights.com/le...k_2007_present and mine are incredibly solid and stable, with 6 factory mount bolts. I can't imagine shortening them or adding an extension bracket to them for height adjustability would make them less secure in any way.

I'm going to try the drop bracket fix. This morning on my drive to work I turned the fan on (1/3 power) and it helped reduce the buffeting. Hopefully with the addition of the brackets and turning the fan on it will eliminate or extremely reduce the buffeting noise!

Have you guys tried installing door edge trim on the back of your light bar fins? It eliminates the whistle. Then, a combo of lowering the light flush with the top and the fan trick make it manageable. It's a three pronged approach.

I have the door edge trim on the back of the light, which does reduce/almost eliminate the whistling. What it doesn't do is get rid of the wind coming off the light right on the soft top.

Does anyone know where to find brackets like the one the OP posted? I have been looking for the exact ones or something similar and having no luck. Any help would be great as I had to drive all backroads last weekend as driving over 65MPH was unbearable!
