Default Looking for 2012 7-pin wiring harness and brake controller

HAve not found a write up for the 2012 JKU trailer wiring. I have the max tow package which has the factory 4-flat connector. I will be towing a trailer with brakes so I need to upgrade to a 7-pin connector as well as a brake controller. I see a 7-pin mopar part for the 2007-2011 on amazon for $93 but am not sure it would be the same for the 2012. Step 1 is to get the 7-pin connector wired then I will tackle the brake controller. Are there any good write ups for the 2012? Thanks.

Also, is it best to remove my factory 4flat connector and replace it with the mopar 7-pin harness or is there a better option?

No need to replace the 4 pin unless you just want to. The Mopar harness connect to your existing harness at the rear driverside tailight. Run the the harness under the vehicle up to the battery and connect it to a plug there, then run the blue brake controller wire over to the driverside and through the firewall hole. Connect the brake controller and you're done.

But if I go with an adapter from my 4 flat to the trailers 7 then I won't have trailer brakes, right? I would like to add the 7-pin connector while still keeping my 4 flat if it's possible, and easy.

I just had my Electric Brake controller and the 7 pin female installed from my 2010 to my 2012. When I had it installed in my 2010 the had to wire it all because the jeeps are not prewired for a eletric brake and controller. It cost me about $300 but the dealer installed it on my 2012 for nothing. I tow a tent trailer. The just used a standard brake controller and 7 pin harness.

I installed my own and it took about 3.5 hours for both the controller and harness.

Won't this adapter from trailer work? It converts 4 pole to 7 pole. They have a video for an older wrangler, but I'm guessing the install is similar.

I'm looking at vintage pop up campers, and am thinking of installing this before I pull the trigger.
