Need to display odometer with cluster removed from vehicle

Need to display odometer with cluster removed from vehicle
All - have a 2008 Wrangler cluster that I need the mileage on but don't currently have a vehicle to plug it in to. Don't ask...anyway, I tried simply piping 12V and ground to it and that doesn't get it. Looking at the wiring diagram, it seems to me that there's much complexity there, ie, PCM, TIPM, BCMs, CAN C bus, etc. Am I SOL or is there a way to trick this cluster into giving up its innermost secrets? Is the mileage even stored there? Searching a bit, someone said that the PCM stores mileage data also and will simply override odometer mileage as soon as you plug it in anyway. Is this true? Any help appreciated,

Here's California law on odometers ...
Reading between the lines, either your new odometer will properly reset to the mileage on the vehicle it's mounted in, or it will reset to zero. Anything else would make it impossible to comply with California law and, I'm pretty certain, most other states as well.

5.060 Odometer Replacement or Conversion (CVC §28053)
An odometer may be serviced, repaired, or replaced. The odometer must reflect the same mileage after the replacement, service or repair as it did prior.
• However, if the odometer is incapable of registering the same mileage, the odometer must be adjusted to zero miles, and a notice in writing must be attached to the left door frame of the vehicle by the person performing the service, repair, or replacement, specifying the mileage prior to the service, etc. and the date on which it was completed.

Thanks for the input, guys. Yes, this helps clarify that I'm just barking up the wrong tree. If the mileage info is there, which it sounds like it isn't, it would take too much science to set it up. Not worth it. Happy trails and thanks,

The mileage is stored in the cluster and the PCM. I can confirm it is in the cluster because I swapped a premium EVIC into my Sport. When I received the new cluster from the boneyard and plugged it into my Sport, the mileage reflected was that of the donor vehicle.
In order to get that mileage to align with what my Sport has, I had it reflashed to a mileage total that was about 500 more than that of my Sport. I then drove around with my new cluster in the passenger seat until I hit the mileage I had it flashed to. I then pulled over and swapped the new cluster in, it's only 4 screws and 2 connectors so it was just a few minutes.

Thanks, KevinMac. For giggles, do you happen to know if it's possible for me to see what mileage is on this cluster outside of a vehicle? I'm getting the impression that there's other components in the electrical system that it needs to see, that it's really not feasible out of the vehicle. Regards,
