Guys, I am installing the new deck, amps, speakers, and subs today. I am hardwiring the deck to the battery, but need to know what wire to splice into from the driver's side cigarrete lighter to give it power when the ignition is turned on. Please help fast, I'll be under the hood for now.

i did something similar with the cigarette lighter... the one closest to the drivers side is the one wired into the ignition... pull the bottom plate by the shifter and look up in there and find a blue wire with a redish/puple stripe. That is your 12V wire. There is not much space to work (very little wire slack)... i cut it and spliced a 6" wire to extend it... the you can splice into that with whatever you want

hope this helps

guys....I hooked into the same 12v cigarette lighter wire for my windshield lights (instead of direct to battery).

My cellphone charger uses the cigarette lighter, and ive found the lights don't work at same time as the cell charger in use.

Now the question - Have you had any problems with the power to your stereo or other using this 'hot' wire ??

yes, the 8" ones, 130W bulbs. Work great other times, but not when cell charger on - something to do with voltage draw on the wire ???

I leave the doors off in spring, summer & autumn, and put the light switches on left of steering wheel - By hooking into cigarrette wire the lights will only come on when ignition is on.

Thought I'd avoid hooking directly to the battery as didnt want some pr&ck poking their nose in, and flicking the switches on and draining the battery.

Hmmm... there has got to be a better way to wire it up. Was the wire gauge on the light kit the same as it is on the cigarette lighter?

I just cant see there being enough OOMPH to power those things safely. .
