Default Need help wiring lights

ok so this is kinda hard to explain. i am a firefighter and want to make it so my windshield mount off road lights are also warning lights for when responding to calls. i wired them up like the diagram below shows. i used a simple 12V alternating flasher, and a light up 3 position switch.
position 1 - flashing
position 2 - off
position 3 - steady

when i turn the switch to steady they both light up
when i turn the switch to flash they both light up no flash

is there a relay or something somehow to mount to prevent it back feeding bypassing the flasher? (the blue dots)

from my electrical knowledge, I believe you would have to put in a one way diode in where the steady wiring is. Doing that will prevent power from going back to the relay. Should do the trick. Let us know how that goes!

I don't see a relay in your wiring diagram. I have been told and all the light kits I have bought had relays. Not sure what they do.

Agrreed that the problem is feed-back. The flasher system is feeding back through the "maintained" wiring. Diode(s) would be the simple fix. You need one for each light. When one flashes ( left ) it feeds power through the extra wires to the other fixture ( right ) making it appear that both fixtures are activated.

Well I am. And a SPDT sw will not work. You need a DPST ( double pole single throw ) switch. The switch will have 2 primary terminal. And 2 secondary terminals. Connect 12V to both primary terminals. And connect 1 light to each secondary terminal. This will correct the problem.
