Default Plate light wire for relocation

For those of you who have relocated your plate to your spare tire...
Easy enough to figure out the brake light wiring, but where are you getting the wire lead for a plate light?

I tapped mine into the passenger side tail light. I believe it was the black wire and the white/purple wire.

With a T connector or peeling the insulation and wrapping a wire around it? I take it no flicker or anything weird? Aftermarket brake light or stock?

Either will work fine as long as your connection is solid. There's not much current running through there so you won't see anything weird.

Cool. I've never had much faith in the T connectors, which method would you say is better? And can anyone confirm the tail light wire color on 2012?

Appreciate the help.

Scotch locks, I believe they're called, are usually decent. If you're really paranoid then go on ahead and solder the connections. It's the best way to connect them but other methods will work too.

Thanks Karls. Is that something I should look online for or will a store carry those?

i just ran it straight from the stock license plate wiring harness using some old speaker wire, ziptied to the frame running underneath the tailgate and then up the tire carrier.

i also used the stock license plate mount, but hacked it up so it sits flush on the tire carrier.

not the best picture, but...

There's no reason Wal-Mart or any local auto shop shouldn't have them, worst comes to worst- radio shack has them.
