Press the Uconnect button
You must be wrong Monkeyboy, because:
ONE LAST TIME for everyone. The hands free via bluetooth DOES NOT work on a wrangler. The only reason the buttons are on there is because the same exact head units are used in most Dodge and Chrysler vehicles. Forget the button even exist in your jeep. "There is no U-Connect Obi-Wan." There is no hack or additional hardware you can buy to make it work. Give up and get a headset or turn off the phone and enjoy the drive.

So you're all saying that if you get a u-connect from a magnum, hook up the wires like it's supposed to and then press u-connect...it won't work???
That is the biggest bolony ever made. Right after "Elvis is still alive"....
Its as simple as hard wiring a few wires...maybe it's not a plug and play but it is possible.

My U-connect button works, dunno why you guys all have a problem with it.
When I push the button, all of the ball point pens that I've bought, and subsequently lost, over the years..suddenly and without warning..appear in my front seat.

[QUOTE=MonkeyBoy;90179 No ill effects and the dealer installed it for free. The hands free option was very nice when coordinating a recovery about 2 weeks ago when stuck with 2 shredded tires and a running mate who proceeded to get lost on the way up the trail with my spare. Only drawback is that the UConnect portion is not covered by the warranty so if it quits...it is my fault.

So the electrical field from the uconnect was so strong that it shredded your tires?
Yikes

Looks like it was to be installed on the wrangler initially, but due to mongo road noise with windows open and the top down, they removed the option. If you are hard over about getting the UConnect to work (I was because the dealer said it did...silly dealer,) you can install the dealer serviced Uconnect kit from the Dodge magnum. Plugs into the radio harness, and the microphone snakes up to the top of the windshield. I had my mike put in above the mirror so both passenger and driver voices are picked up equally. It works well, someitmes road noise can block commands...go figure what with the top down, and 65 mph highway noise. No ill effects and the dealer installed it for free. Thanks
Sorry to rain on the dealer's parade,
but it is the same kit as the magnum, nitro etc. Here are two pics, one of what it should say when you press the uconnect button and the other is the mike above the mirror. No radio interference, no jeep problems from the install, works with both a motorola and Verizon brand cell phone (up to 12 in the paired list.)

And your stereo is the factory installed one, right?
How much did the kit cost you?
BTW- I'm still trying to figure out where my refurb unit came from originally. Instead of RES or REQ near the aux input it says RET.

Probably came from a foreign Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep
